Slide 1: Making ventilator adjustments: the arterial blood gas. There are four variables we can adjust, each of which fall under two categories. Oxygenation β> affects PaO2. Ventilation β> affects PCO2. A normal PaO2 is ~100 and a normal PaCo2 is ~40. Our targets for ARDS are different. GOal PaO2 > 55 (LOCO2 trial) and goal PaCO2 40-50.
